Turquoise Class
Our reception, year 1 and year 2 artists investigated the work of Australian designer Rachel Castle (see examples below). We identified the various shapes that Castle uses in her designs, then warmed up by using sharpies to draw patterns using only circles, semi circles and rectangles. We then created compositions using felt circles and rectangles- we each came up with different ways to combine them to make interesting images. Finally, we made pictures using precut sticky felt shapes!
Amber & Magenta Class
Our year 3 and 4 artists continued with their work based on Lynne Chapman’s rust inspired textiles piece (see last week’s post for examples of Lynne’s work). We fixed the pieces of cotton we produced last week into embroidery hoops, then tried out different stitches to add detail to our work. We achieved some very rusty looking final results!
Violet & Emerald Class
Our year 5 and 6 artists continued with their project inspired by Lynne Chapman’s Lake District textiles work. Working from last weeks’ pastel studies, we sketched out our chosen landscape onto a piece of cotton stretched over a board. We used watercolours to fill in the basic areas of colour, then added texture using smaller brush strokes. We will be continuing with this project next week, adding further detail through the addition of organza and embroidery. They’re looking lovely so far!
