Term 3 Week 6

Maroon & Turquoise Class

Our reception, year 1 and year 2 artists swapped projects with our year 3 and 4 students this week! It was our turn to create some beautiful forests to showcase our markmaking and collage skills. We invented some lovely patterns!

Amber, Magenta & Violet Class

It was the turn of our year 3 and 4 artists to work on collages inspired by Paul Klee’s ‘Chateau et Soleil’. As well as using the precut squares and triangles, we used scissors to cut smaller shapes in order to create more intricate and detailed designs.

Jade & Emerald Class

Our year 5 and 6 artists investigated tonal value this week. We warmed up by completing tone activities, using graphite to achieve a variety of tones through shading, hatching and cross hatching. The students were then challenged to create a collage using newspaper, with the aim of achieving a variety of tone in their piece.

Unfortunately Ellie forgot to take photos… here are some pieces we were using a inspiration though 🙂

Term 3 Week 5

Maroon & Turquoise Class

Our reception, year 1 and year 2 artists investigated the work of Paul Klee. We looked at his painting ‘Chateau et Soleil’ (Castle and Sun) and discussed the shapes and colours we could see. We then created our own interpretations of the painting using squares and triangles of coloured paper.

Amber, Magenta & Violet Class

Our year 3 and 4 artists experimented with mark making to produce these ‘enchanted forest’ illustrations. We got some great variations in how trees can be represented!

Jade & Emerald Class

Our year 5 and 6 artists completed their decoupaged masks this week. We used strips cut from magazines to cover the mask and background, then chose specific letters, words and images to represent aspects of our personalities. We got some great results!

Term 3 Week 4

Maroon & Turquoise Class

Our reception, year 1 and year 2 artists have been using strips cut from magazines to create collaged animals!

Amber, Magenta & Violet Class

Our year 3 and 4 artists used the magazine strips to create a background, then worked on creating positive and negative silhouettes from black card. Amber class focused on animal silhouettes, whereas Magenta and Violet worked on trees. The results looked very effective!

Jade & Emerald Class

Our year 5 and 6 artists used the magazine strips to decoupage masks! This week we worked on getting a good first layer on as a base. We’re going to continue with this project next week, adding words and specific images to reflect our personalities.

Term 3 Week 3

Maroon & Turquoise Class

This week, our reception, year 1 and year 2 artists completed their mixed media portraits! We practised drawing our own faces in our sketchbooks, using a mirror to help. We then painted a large scale version onto our collaged backgrounds using black acrylic paint. We added white acrylic highlights in the eyes, and finally used diluted paint to make the background paler so that our portraits stood out. The results looked great!

Amber, Magenta & Violet Class

Our year 3 and 4 artists completed their Chris Ofili inspired layered paintings this week. We looked at examples of Ofili’s work (see below) and practised drawing patterns in his style. We then used a mixture of fine and medium brushes to add a layer of pattern over our collaged backgrounds.

Jade & Emerald Class

Our year 5 and 6 artists completed their collaged self portraits. Last week they sketched out a rough portrait onto green card before tracing over it in more detail onto acetate using permanent markers. This week they continued to add elements of collage to the green card, using the acetate as an overlay. There were some really different approaches to the task, which was very interesting and added variety to our gallery!

Cerise Class

Our Explore Arts Award students have been busy working on their self directed projects for Part C of the award. They’ll be reflecting on the outcomes next week and recording their progress in their Arts logs.

Paisley Art drawing Course- Week 3

This week our Key Stage 3 and 4 artists produced some beautiful mixed media architectural pieces. They worked with carbon copy paper, transferring images from photographs of Peterborough buildings onto coloured paper. They then chose areas of the photo to cut out and collage onto their work, which created some really interesting effects. They also experimented with simple line drawings painted with tea, in the style of artist Sunga Park.

Cyan Class

Indigo Class

Term 3 Week 2

This week our artists got to work transforming their coloured, textured and patterned paper produced last week into a collage!

Maroon & Turquoise Class

Our reception, year 1 and year 2 artists tore their papers into pieces and chose interesting combinations to glue onto their card. We used PVA glue, adding a layer over the top of each piece to ensure that it stuck down well and to give it a shiny finish. We’ll be using our collages as a background for a painted portrait, which is next week’s job!

Amber, Magenta & Violet Class

Our year 3 and 4 artists also made colourful collages to use as backgrounds for a painted piece of work. We are going to be investigating the layered abstract work of Chris Ofili and producing our own interpretations over the top of our collages.

Jade & Emerald Class

Our year 5 and 6 artists used their collage materials to start a two week portrait project. We refreshed our memories of proportions of a face, using guidelines to position the facial features. We drew our portraits onto card, then traced them onto acetate using marker pens. We worked onto the card in collage, building up areas of our faces using different colours and patterns. Next week we’ll continue with this stage, before overlaying the black outline to finish off the piece.

Paisley Art Drawing Course- Week 2

This week our Key Stage 2 classes worked on developing their drawing skills using ink, graphite and Berol pens. They experimented with mark making, combining the media in different ways to produce varying textures and tones. They then chose appropriate marks to create a tonal landscape.

Term 3 Week 1

Happy New Year! We’ve had a very busy first week back after the festive break. The focus this term is on collage- this week, each class has been working hard producing lots of different textured, coloured and patterned papers ready to use in our first collage project. We drew to music, interpreting different pieces using various media. We got lots of really interesting results!
