Arts Award Explore

Indigo Class continued with their screen prints based on British designer Marcus Walters’ work. We produced the stencil for the second layer, which involved more fiddly work with the craft knives! We each printed the second layer onto our prints from last week, taking care to align the screen correctly with the image underneath. We also prepared the third stencil ready for next week’s final round of screen printing. The students are really getting to grips with the process now and worked independently and in pairs.

Arts Award Explore

This week in Indigo class, we produced a stencil for the first layer of our screen print design inspired by Marcus Walters. We drew the design out onto moisture resistant card, before using a craft knife to cut around the outlines. This was fiddly and required quite a lot of patience! Once our stencils were ready we attached them to the underside of a silk screen using parcel tape. We laid the screen on top of a piece of heavy duty cartridge paper, then used a squeegee to drag ink across the surface. Some of us experimented with combining colours and got some interesting results! Next week we’ll be printing the second layer of our designs.

Arts Award Explore

Following on from last term’s success in achieving their Arts Award at Discover level, the talented artists in Indigo Class have moved on to the next level- Explore! Explore is the first accredited level of the award, meaning that our artists will be working towards a recognised qualification endorsed by Trinity College, London. Explore is a more in depth programme and will take us up to Easter to complete.

This week we identified different art forms and recorded our strengths and interests in our Arts Logs. We also discussed possible projects that we’d like to undertake as part of the award. We then had a go at some monoprinting techniques. Some exciting arts experiences ahead!

More information about Arts Award can be found on their website- http://www.artsaward.org.uk.

Discover Arts Award- Week 7

This week in Indigo class we added embellishments to our textiles pieces which will be included in the Winter Exhibition. We will be documenting the exhibition in our Arts Award log books as evidence of sharing our work- the third and final section of the Award. Then our log books will be assessed!

Discover Arts Award- Week 5

This week Indigo class completed our textiles project. We chose some fabric to use to create a cushion inspired by the work we saw at the Stamford Arts Centre exhibition. We sewed our fish lino print onto one of the sides, before pinning the two pieces face to face and sewing around the outside. We then turned the cushion the right way out, added stuffing and sewed up the last little bit. We’re really pleased with our results!

Discover Arts Award- Week 3

This week in Indigo Class we continued with our fish-themed printmaking project, inspired by local artist Nicola Elstone’s work. We cut our designs from last week into a piece of lino, which was very fiddly and required a lot of patience and perseverance! Once the designs were complete, we created a series of prints onto thin cardboard, trying out various colour combinations. We finished by printing two of our chosen colourways onto a piece of cotton, ready to develop as a textiles project.

Discover Arts Award- Week 1

Indigo class started their Arts Award journey this week with a visit to the ESCartists exhibition at Stamford Arts Centre. It was a great way to launch the Arts Award course, as the first part of the award is all about discovering the arts around us and recognising just how many art forms there are. We spotted ceramics, textiles, printmaking, painting, sculpture, metalwork and glass, amongst others- all in the same room! We also picked up information about other art forms at the Arts Centre, including theatre, dance and music. We came away feeling really inspired and looking forward to having a go at creating our own versions of some of the artwork we saw.
