Term 4 Week 4

Unfortunately this week was cut short- we made the difficult decision to suspend our classes due to the coronavirus. Hopefully we’ll be up and running again sometime soon!

Teal Class

Our Bronze Arts Award group grouted the beautiful mosaic coasters that they made with Muni last week. We’re looking forward to giving them a final polish once they’re fully dry!

Cyan & Indigo Class

Our Key Stage 3 & 4 artists worked on a monotone mountain landscape. We used Indian ink, drawing ink, watercolour and bleach, creating a variety of marks on the paper. We also produced a sheet of black texture using printing ink and a roller, ready to use when we introduce collage elements to the landscapes.

Our Silver Arts Award group had a visit from Prin Marshall (aka Cur5) this week! The group are meeting artists to expand their knowledge of career opportunities within the arts. Prin is a freehand Illustrator and street artist who specialises in characters, paste ups and sticker art. Her main medium is ink. She spoke to us about her career path and the various arts organisations and events she’s involved with. It was so inspiring!

A huge thank you to Prin for coming along!

Teal Class

Teal class are working on their Bronze Award. This week we completed our sculptures inspired by Dale Chihuly’s glass artwork. We drew designs onto plastic plates with Sharpies, then used a heat gun to melt the plates into wavy shapes. It was a very satisfying process!

Cerise Class

Cerise class are working on their Bronze Award too. This week we visited Stamford Arts Centre to see an exhibition of GCSE art work by Stamford High School students. There was some amazing work on display! We will be writing reviews of the exhibition as part of our award.

Sapphire Class

Our Silver Arts Award group went to the Key Theatre to see a play called Sand Castles. It was a really enjoyable evening! We will be writing reviews for our log books.

Arts Award News

This week, two of our Arts Award classes had a visit from the lovely Muni, who ran a mosaic workshop for each group. We learned how to create coasters using glass tiles, and produced some wonderful pieces! We’ll be grouting the tiles next week- we’re looking forward to seeing the finished coasters!

We’ll be reviewing the visit as part of our Arts Award. A huge thank you to Muni for visiting us!

Find out more about Muni’s wonderful work here.

Cerise Class

Our current Bronze Arts Award group have been working on a project inspired by George Rodrigue’s Blue Dog series! Each student chose an animal to paint onto canvas using tones of blue, then used bright colours to create an abstract background. We got some lovely results!

Term 2 Week 1

We are excited to be kicking off term 2, for which our focus is on textiles! Here’s what we’ve been up to this week…

Maroon & Turquoise Class

Our reception, year 1 and year 2 artists made fabric bowls. We used ceramic bowls covered in cling film as a template, then added patches of fabric soaked in PVA glue. We made sure we smoothed the patches off so that out bowls retained their shapes. We got some lovely results!

Amber, Magenta & Violet Class

Our year 3 and 4 artists were inspired by Adinkra patterns this week! We looked at examples of traditional Adinkra symbols used to decorate fabric, and recorded some in our book. We then designed our own symbols to represent an aspect of our lives. We created a printing plate using craft foam and card, which we then used to print onto colourful cotton. The results were very effective!

Jade & Emerald Class

Our year 5 and 6 artists had a go at some radial sewing. We learnt how to create some designs on paper by linking 16 dots around a circle in different ways, and then created some design of our own. We used templates to draw the dots onto a piece of card, and pushed a needle through to create holes. We then used multicoloured embroidery thread to produce our designs.

Cyan & Indigo Class

Our Key Stage 3 and 4 artists are having a go at creating some sock monkeys! We chose a pair of socks and marked out the different parts using a Sharpie. We then sewed along the lines using small stitches. We will continue with this next week!

Cerise Class- Bronze Arts Award

Our current Bronze cohort are also making sock monkeys at the moment! They are working towards part A of the Award.
