Collaborative Projects

We are able to work with large groups of children or even whole schools to produce large scale collaborative artwork for permanent display, for example tile mosaics or wood based installations. We would be happy to come in and discuss a tailor made project for your school!

For examples of projects for which children produce individual artwork, please see the Workshops page.

Caverstede Nursery School, Peterborough

We had a lovely time with the children at Caverstede Nursery School, creating colourful artwork for permanent display outside each classroom! The Ladybird and Butterfly classes helped to paint plywood shapes using acrylics, which we then decorated using glass tiles. The Buzzy Bees worked on a large scale mosaic, with children taking turns in small groups to help place the tiles using special adhesive. The artwork was finished off and varnished in the Artivity studio before being installed at the nursery. We think the results look lovely!

We worked on a project to create artwork with the children to be permanently displayed in their woodland garden area- this included a mosaic hedgehog, a giant snake and a whole host of beautiful birds cut from plywood, which the children helped paint using acrylics. We think they all look lovely in the garden!

We also worked with the children on a collaborative ceramic project to be displayed permanently outside one of the classrooms. Each child created either a ladybird, a bee or a butterfly (depending on which class they were in) and the creatures were added to clay tiles. Once the tiles were fired, the children then glazed the insects, then the project was finished off in the Artivity studio before being installed. It was a lot of fun!

We created some artwork for the reception area of the nursery! The children were involved with producing different textures in acrylic paint, using a variety of tools to scrape and scratch into the surface of the paint. The textured paper was then used to cut houses and trees. The children also printed windows, doors and foliage for use in the image by using a roller to ink up precut printing blocks.

Water Orton Primary School, Birmingham

Each class chose a woodland animal to create in mosaic form, for permanent installation in their woodland garden area. The children worked in small groups to add some tiles to their class mosaic, and the mosaics were then finished and grouted at the Artivity studio before being installed. It was a fiddly job but the results looked wonderful!

Ormiston Meadows Academy, Peterborough

We worked with each class over the course of a week to produce some large scale collaborative artwork based on famous artists, and each student also created an individual piece of work. Reception, year 1 and year 2 created 5 foot by 6 foot images based on Kandinsky, Picasso and Van Gogh respectively. Year 3 investigated Matisse and year 4 based their work on Hockney, and they produced a joint collaged display. Year 5 and year 6 looked at work by urban artists Vexx and Jon Burgerman and produced their own characters for a large piece of work. The artwork was all displayed for an exhibition at the end of the Arts Week.

Hampton Hargate Primary School, Peterborough

We recently completed a school wide project at Hampton Hargate Primary School, working with each class over five days. We had 270 Key Stage 1 children producing butterflies, and 360 Key Stage 2 children working on plywood circles. A different artist was chosen to inspire each year group. The children worked really hard and the results were fantastic!

John Clare Primary School, Helpston

We worked with years 1-6 to create this display on the theme of diversity, as part of the school’s Art Week. Each child produced a circle featuring artwork inspired by different artists from around the world. The circles were all unique and diverse, yet came together to form a colourful tree which takes pride of place in the school hall.

St. John’s Church School, Peterborough

Below is an example of a tile mosaic made with all of the students and staff of St. John’s Church School- self portraits creating the rainbow from the school logo, with each year group represented by a different colour.
