This week, our Key Stage 3 and 4 artists used all the skills they’ve learned over the last few weeks to produce beautiful watercolour birds! It was a lovely way to end the course!
This week, our Key Stage 3 and 4 artists have been working on depicting water! We practised using different brush strokes to show various wave effects, then combined these with the techniques we’ve developed in previous classes to create a seascape.
This week our year 7-11 students learned how to portray skies using some of the techniques we’ve been developing. In particular we were concentrating on showing a variety of clouds within our images.
This week, our Key Stage 3 and 4 artists worked on depicting shadows in watercolour. We created paintings of trees in a snowy scene, mixing blues and purples for the shadows. We thought about the direction of the shadows in relation to the light source. We got some lovely results!
This week our Key Stage 3 and 4 artists worked on depicting glass, using masking fluid to help show reflections on the surface. This was a challenging task- we got some lovely results!
This week we started our watercolour course with our Key Stage 3 and 4 artists! The focus was on experimenting with different techniques, including wet-on-wet, graduated washes and the use of salt. We then looked at examples of paintings by Melbourne based artist Elizabeth Barnett and worked on a painting of flowers in her style. We got some lovely results!
This week our Key Stage 3 and 4 artists have been learning how draw portraits. We have been looking at the traditional means of mapping and measuring features alongside looking at portrait artists who bend the rules. In particular, we were inspired by the work of artist Mark Powell.
This week, our Key Stage 3 and 4 artists have been learning about layout and composition. We worked in the style of David Hockney and learned how to create movement and balance within our work.
This week, our Key Stage 3 and 4 artists have been looking at unusual perspectives. They investigated the work of artist Robert Delaunay, then produced their own drawings inspired by his work.
This week our Key Stage 3 and 4 artists produced some beautiful mixed media architectural pieces. They worked with carbon copy paper, transferring images from photographs of Peterborough buildings onto coloured paper. They then chose areas of the photo to cut out and collage onto their work, which created some really interesting effects. They also experimented with simple line drawings painted with tea, in the style of artist Sunga Park.
